Day blah blah blah…

February 22, 2010

So I’m not really feeling like posting anything interesting, mainly because I don’t really have anything interesting to post about… As is evident by the title of this post, I am just feeling kind of blah. I have been having a lot of fun lately with people, I think I am just discouraged with the job situation. I am frustrated with searching through jobs only to find jobs that sound awesome but I’m not qualified for, or jobs that sound cool but pay NOTHING, or just nothing that sounds remotely interesting. I started on the final piece in the Silver, Glass, China series. I decided to use the new floss I ordered because I thought it looked more vintagey than my DMC floss. DMC floss cotton and is quite shiny/glossy, while this new stuff is polyester and has a more matte finish to it. I like the way the polyester stuff looks, especially on the vintage patterns, however it is kind of a bitch to floss. There are some awesome variegated skeins though. Usually variegated floss is variations of one color, like red to dark pink to light pink, but there are some rainbow color skeins in the mix which is pretty cool. And I like that the stuff comes on bobbins:

However, these bobbins are too big to fit into my floss organizer, although that’s really no matter because the thing is full anyway. For the China piece, I kept thinking of blue and white china. I couldn’t really find a blue floss in my collection that I was totally satisfied with, so I just picked one and went with it. I didn’t decide what color I would do the cup and saucer hat before I started, and that was a mistake. I think things turn out better when I spend some real time picking colors and lay out the colors on the pattern to see what they will look like together…so, when it came time to do the hat I couldn’t decide if I should do the saucer a different blue…so I just went with the same blue, and then I chose yellow for the cup because…I dunno, I just did. And….

NOT loving it. It looks like UC colors…ew. I then proceeded to choose a variegated blue for the loops of the bow and a lighter yellow for the ribbons of the bow…not loving that either. I think I may rip out the cup and saucer…I dunno.  Maybe I will scrap the whole thing and start again. Transferring the pattern is such a pain in the ass though, I hate to do that part over again. I dunno, need to think on it.  On a more fun note, we had some friends over on Saturday, which turned into staying for dinner, which turned into the four of us all in the kitchen helping to cook. I didn’t take pictures of the meal, but it involved a Napa cabbage, which unfolded in a really cool-looking way after I cut the bottom off and stuck it in the colander to rinse it, so I had to snap a picture really quick:

Cool, right? I thought so anyway. So…other than that, not much else to say. I will devote some time to China tomorrow and see if I can fix it…

I like the blue, too. I think I am going to scrap it and start over though…keeping the blue but different colors for the rest…any suggestions? I like the thread, it has a different look and feel and it’s hard to thread but that’s o.k. I think I will do some internet research on vintage blue china for inspiration 🙂
